PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME OF INQUIRY
At the heart of the IB PYP philosophy is a commitment to a transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. Kaluga International School has developed its Programme of Inquiry using the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum framework. This incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum through six transdisciplinary themes. These Transdisciplinary Themes have been selected by the IBO and represent the significant knowledge and understandings students will develop throughout their years in the Primary Years Programme. They are:
Who We Are
Where We Are In Place and Time
How We Express Ourselves
How the World Works
How We Organise Ourselves
Sharing the Planet
Each year, students engage in Units of Inquiry designed to further develop their understanding of these themes. These units form our Programme of Inquiry.
Through Units of Inquiry under each of these themes, KIS students develop within the essential elements of the PYP: knowledge, concepts, skills, and action. Together with the learner profile attributes, they develop the ability to work collaboratively, as well as learning to think creatively and critically. Our Programme of Inquiry is a framework that guides us in providing our students with an excellent education and equipping them with the tools they need to become lifelong learners, making informed and ethical choices in our changing world.
